Canoe and Island Campout Details

Keep paddling

We'll meet up at the church at the time announced at the last meeting. We gather near the scout garage and towards the back where we launch the canoes.

I've attached a list of items to bring with you camping, down below this note. You'll probably want to have some of it in a dry bag and some in a small backpack. It is important to pack everthing that you don't want to get wet in ziplock bags. Tents and cooking gear are supplied by the troop.

Also, to get credit for campout signoffs, you must have your scout book. We work on sign offs while on these trips, so it's a great opportunity to start advancing.

Don't forget a bag lunch and drink (no soft drinks) for on the way there. We'll be stopping at the lighthouse in the canals for swim testing, fun, and lunch before we get to the island. We plan to return early enough on Sunday to put away all the troop gear and be ready for pick up by 11:00 a.m.

You'll need to think of non-refrigerated food to make, and pack so it won't get wet on the way. The troop has cooking pots, pans, stoves, and implements. Be prepared to let me know what you need to make your dinner, so we can get it from the scout garage and bring it with us.

Plan on one cooked meal Saturday night with a simple desert and something like Cool Aid powder (troop brings extra water cans). Sunday's breakfast needs to be simple like instant oatmeal, granola, etc. Those of you buying need to limit your budget to $4 for each scout that you are buying for. Everyone else needs to bring $4 to pay the scout that is buying for your patrol. I divided the new scouts into the parols for this trip, so remember who you are with for meals.

I think that about covers it. I look forward to seeing you there Saturday morning.
